When out on the town, Dr. Michael Yafi sheds the clinical jacket he wears as a pediatric endocrinologist in favor of high style Italian fashions. Last week's Party in Pink was no exception when we spotted him at the rockin' event at Hotel ZaZa.

Truly, we didn't expect many men to dress in the requisite pink. But Yafi had his sartorial splendor thing running in high gear. And he was without a doubt, a fashion standout.

He had seen a photo of a Versace pink suit in a fashion publication and headed to the Galleria store where he found the slacks but not the jacket as the pieces are sold separately. Staffers searched the computers and found the hard-to-get jacket from the runway collection at Versace in Las Vegas. Et voila! His look was established.

Yafi completed his outfit with shoes by Yves St. Laurent, a belt by Bally, the shirt by American Living and eyeglasses by Vogue — most purchased in Galleria stores.

He explained of his passion for flamboyant fashion, "I love art. I think that fashion is a form of art. I love bold colors and Italian styles."

Summer whites seemed to carry the fashion theme for many attending "A Night in Havana," the indoor/outdoor bash at Concepción. The party scene was also peppered with guayaberas, loads of linen and shorts, sometimes so short as to challenge the laws of modesty.

One who carried off the short shorts look with style and class was community relations specialist Monitrice Malone. Her J-Lo white eyelet shorts played fashionable companion to her shimmery top by Trina Turk. The ostrich handbag is vintage.

Her goal, she said, was to project summer chic while wearing something cool and "airy."

Who wouldn't put his or her best fashion foot forward for Bastille Day, that celebration of all things trés French and trés chic? Well, that's what we might have thought, but au contraire. The crowd that turned out for the afternoon salute Francais at Philippe Restaurant + Lounge was very much on the casual side.

Jeans ruled, T-shirts made an appearance and only a few "dressed" for the occasion. C'est domage.

One who stood out was the dapper Joe Edd Nelson in double-breasted suit from R. Rose Clothier, a carefully coordinated shirt and pocket square from Paul Fredrick and a matching bowtie from Beau Ties Ltd. of Vermont.

While most of the Fourth of July celebrants at River Oaks Country Club were decked out in their preppy/summer frock best, Annie Amante stood out for her Bohemian chic attitude with a touch of patriotism.

She wore a cotton lace, off-the-shoulder top by Jens Pirate Booty and "beatnik" '60s style jeans by Current Elliott, both finds at Katia Boutique. The vintage Ralph Lauren American flag silk scarf was a purchase at Tootsies back in the '80s. Her taupe suede/fishnet wedges with ribbon ankle ties were Jimmy Choo, found at Saks Fifth Avenue.

"I love anything and everything Bohemian," Annie e-mailed. "So putting these retro jeans with the breezy feminine top and shoes got me feelin' groovy for my favorite day of the year. The Ralph Lauren scarf is a prized possession; no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I wear it loud and proud every year on the 4th of July."

For a night of shopping at the new Henri Bendel store in The Galleria, Kendra Smith mixed a cocktail and casual look that reflects the high/low trend that is so popular in fashion right now.

For the store opening, where she was spotted eyeing the selection of shoes, Smith paired a fringe cocktail dress from Chan Luu with a military-style jacket from Forever 21. She accented the outfit with a pair of nude Louboutins. And to top it all off with a pop of vibrant color, Smith carried a bright yellow vintage handbag.
