A former ballerina in her native Venezuela, Karina Barbieri has a special appreciation of the dance form and any opportunity to celebrate ballet is a happy thing for her. For the recent Houston Ballet Ball kick-off, she stepped out in colorful, whimsical fashion finery.
Her brightly-colored Roberto Cavalli dress is from Neiman Marcus in the Galleria, her playful Louboutins with feathery puffs at the heel are from Neiman Marcus on line and the golden spiked handbag by Deux Lux was a find at Nordstrom. Her watch, a stunning accessory in itself, is a 24-karat gold timepiece from Longines.
"I chose this dress because everything that has to do with the ballet is joy for me," she said. "I wanted a cheerful look to celebrate the Houston Ballet."
Our Style File this week comes from Paola Maria Barbieri, who nominated her mother, Karina Barbieri. "She is Venezuelan with Italian citizenship, which is why she likes European designers but also she loves American designers. She is always looking stunning, and I really proud of her. She feels a passion for fashion," Paola writes.
For the Bayou Bend Garden Party in April, Karina looked just right for the outdoor occasion in a Versace sundress, with Christian Louboutin pumps from Neiman Marcus and a Chanel purse, a gift from Karina's brother. The gold necklace, ring and earrings were a gift from Karina's husband, Carlos, who purchased them nine years ago in Venice, and the gold watch is very precious to her because it was handed down by her mother (Paola's grandmother). Karina completed the ensemble with a Cartier bracelet. "My mother loves gold jewelry," Paola writes.
Karina's birthday is July 2, so Paola sent in the nomination in hopes of surprising her with an early birthday gift. We agree she's a fashionable addition to Style File. Happy birthday, Karina!
