The pressure was on to dress for social success when Naeem Khan landed in Tootsies for a Best Buddies benefit and runway presentation of his dazzling designs. After all, the mere presence of the master of evening wear commands an elevated attention to personal presentation. On this dressy-cocktail evening, Gretchen McFarland rose to the occasion in an elegance reminiscent of Grace Kelly. She chose a ladylike blush sequin-embellished, cream-colored tulle dress by RED Valentino, coincidentally purchased at Tootsies.
Explaining her fashion philosophy, Gretchen e-mailed, "My background in architecture and passion for design definitely influence my personal style . . . I love to mix pieces from different periods and styles but keep it all in balance with color and scale."
As for her career path, she is focusing on interiors and hopes to launch her own firm in two years. "I am a native Houstonian," she proudly adds, "and continue to be inspired everyday by this city's artistic energy and creative people."
