The ladies have always been known to dress in their fanciest spring frocks for the River Oaks tennis tournament luncheon. But in recent years, the men have been spreading their peacock feathers, stepping out in pastels, linen jackets and slacks and gracefully stealing a bit of the fashion thunder.
Case in point is tournament chairman David Modesett, who took the summer style route for this week's back-to-back luncheons at River Oaks Country Club. On day one, he wore a light blue, French cut linen blazer by Sameulsohn, cream colored slacks and pink printed tie — all from his favorite menswear store R Rose Clothier. (The French cut jacket, Modesett explained, is only partially lined thereby being a cooler choice for H-town's steamy weather.) His shirt was custom made by Hamilton Shirts.
"This has been a Houston tradition for 70 years," he said. "And this event is the peak social event of the year as we are coming out of winter. The men should be well-attired."
Modesett wore a pink sports coat last year, saying on this day, "There just are not a lot of places that you can wear a pink jacket."
