Baby, it's hot outside and it's been that way for weeks, sending fashion savvy dames into total distress. How to possibly look cool, calm and collected when the mercury is soaring past 100? In preparation for the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame announcement party at Tootsies, Monica Hartland turned that sticky task over to the experts.
Monica tapped Tootsies' Tamar Mendelssohn to help her with just the right "cool" look and the result was a colorful blast into the evening. The ensemble began with a fashionable floor-length skirt by Roberto Cavalli, the swath of flowing colors subdued by the simple black tank, both from Tootsies. She carried a Ferragamo clutch in lemony yellow and wore shoes by Lanvin. "I love them because I feel extra tall in them," she said.
Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn are Monica's style icons. "I guess my sense of style begins with seeing them and then sometimes I add some glitter . . . sometimes too much. But glitter is always so pretty," she says.
Monica says that her passion is people, much of that revolving around her family. She is one of 14 children and says that keeping in touch with the siblings keeps her very busy. But she does find time to volunteer and recently co-chaired the Mission of Yahweh 50th anniversary benefit at River Oaks Country Club.
