Saturday night's edition of Music from the Movies on KUHF-FM (88.7) won't be the same. Longtime host Regina Scruggs is no longer on the show.
Scruggs, who served as senior film critic at the Houston public radio station and produced the long-running program that features music from current and classic movies, informed friends and fans on her Facebook page that KUHF management unexpectedly laid her off. She was told her position is one of several being phased out by mid-February, 2011.
The program will continue on the air. Scruggs' associate producer, Brad Sayles, will host Saturday night's program, which features music from the Harry Potter movies.
A KUHF official referred questions about Scruggs' departure to the University of Houston office of media affairs. An official in that department said that human resource employees were gone for the day, so no further information was available.
Scruggs did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A veteran broadcaster with more than 30 years experience, Scruggs had been at KUHF since 1990.
