The perils of Houston's new marijuana tourism: Visitors to the busted pot farm forget to leave their drugs at home

When you think of marijuana tourism, you probably imagine foreign havens like Amsterdam, Jamaica, Thailand and, um, Berkeley.

If those destinations are a little out of your reach — it is the era of the staycation, after all — there's a new tourist sight up in Liberty County that potheads have been flocking to.

Since federal agents busted a multi-million dollar marijuana grow operation near County Road 2050 last week, confiscating more than $4 million worth of pot grown on more than 150 acres, sheriffs say the former grow farm has become a magnet for curious locals.

But this place is literally a tourist trap: Authorities have been turning away people on the property who have come looking for leftover weed and one visitor, Logan Williamson, was arrested when sheriffs found drug paraphernalia on him.

(Word to the wise: When sight-seeing and scavenging at a busted grow farm, leave your drug utensils at home. It might seem like it would defeat the purpose, but it's better than facing charges, amiright?)

Liberty County officials are trying to stem the pot tourism by assuring the public that there is no marijuana left to pick up as a "souvenir," and that even if there was some pot, it would be dangerous to consume because of the pesticides and chemicals used by the growers, who have yet to be apprehended.
