If you want to get your exercise and feel good about yourself this weekend, why not Run for the Rose?
The 9th annual Run for the Rose hosted by the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation is 8 a.m. Sunday at Reliant Stadium. The race benefits pediatric initiatives at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and brain cancer research at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, both causes dear to the Rose family.
Dr. Rose was a Houston native, graduating from Bellaire High School, and later from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. She was a pediatric resident, and was diagnosed with brain cancer during her residency and died shortly after in August 2002.
The 5K race and 1K family fun run/walk starts and ends at Reliant Stadium. The Foundation has raised more than $2 million for both hospitals since its inception in 2003. Over 4,000 people are expected to participate in the race this year.
