TARDY FOR THE TAX PARTY

Procrastinators' playpen: Houston asks, What taxes?

03.24.10 | 07:17 am

Houston is the nation's worst city at filing their taxes on time, according to the company that makes Turbo Tax tax filing software.

The ranking is based on the number of returns filed electronically between April 14 and April 17 of last year. Austin is also in the top 10 tardiest cities, putting Texas at a tie witih California for being most tax-man reticent state in the nation. Houston was No. 2 in the 2008 rankings, exposing the Bayou City's IRS allergy.

Blame the fact that the city doesn't really believe in government regulation in any form (see our zoning laws). Or the patio weather. Who wants to be sitting at their computer when they could be at the international festival?

Doesn't procrastination make the world go round?
