SHELBY'S SOCIAL DIARY

This stylish Houston Rodeo roundup lassoed up bling, boots and bolo ties at Pinto Ranch

A determined posse of western wear fans poured into Pinto Ranch Friday night for a rodeo kickoff party that featured three of the boutique's leading designers. Call it a trunk show happening with spurs.

The shopping action kicked into high gear with Rocketbuster custom boots' Nevena Christi, custom jewelry designer Coreen Cordova and local jewelry designer Julie Stevenson of Rhed Lucy. As if Pinto Ranch didn't already have enough fab western designs to make a wannabe cowgirl weep. This evening, co-sponsored by CultureMap, was a delicious temptation.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo regular Andy Delery arrived early to work with Coreen on creating — on the spot — two whimsical necklaces that will be part her rodeo wardrobe this year. Before the cork popped on the first bottle of wine, Andy had her charm-laden necklaces completed and packed away. Coreen is based in the Marin County area of California and comes in for these special trunk shows.

Back in the boot department, Nevena, who hails from El Paso, was on her knees measuring the insteps and length of the feet of customers who just can't resist her custom, handmade boots, even those with price tags of $4,000 and more. Of course, she wasn't always working on the floor, she had plenty of time to visit with satisfied customers including Melissa Cross and Miriam Westmoreland.

The shopping spread throughout the store as Daphne Scarborough, Karen and Byron Hood, Hanni Hull and Katharine and Stephen Newman, CultureMap CEO, checked out the wealth of enticing suedes, leathers and embroidered pieces. Pinto Ranch proprietor Walter Pye Jr. didn't make the event as he was at the boutique's shop in Las Vegas. But all were in good hands with Pinto Ranch director of marketing Bea Garcia there to welcome guests.

Completing the party scene was Misslette, The Singing Cowgirl, who warbled throughout the night, and the ever-clever caterer Graham Gemoets, dashing in black western wear, who offered western-themed hors d'oeuvres. And for that sweet tooth, Sprinkles provided mini-cupcakes.
