Upping the love: Spirit Airlines adds a new, rare low-cost nonstop route from IAH

Have you got a honey in Orlando? Then you're in luck: Spirit Airlines has announced that a new daily nonstop route will launch between Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Valentine's Day.

Beginning Feb. 14, 2013, the low-cost, no-frills air carrier will depart from IAH at 9:45 a.m. and arrive in MCO at 1:10 p.m. A return flight will depart from Orlando at 2 p.m. and arrive in Houston at 3:20 p.m.

This new route adds a second daily service to Orlando from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which already operates a nonstop route departing from DFW daily at 3:50 p.m.

"We offer a Texas-sized thank you to Spirit Airlines for growing the number of low fare flights from George Bush Intercontinental Airport," Mario C. Diaz, director of aviation for Houston Airport System, said in a statement.

The carrier's insanely low base fares might work to lower the overall average flight cost out of the airport, which was recently ranked the most expensive in the nation for domestic round trip tickets.

Spirit first launched service out of IAH in September of this year, first with direct flights to DFW and then quickly adding nonstop service to both Las Vegas and Chicago.
