Houston travelers are going to have an easier time getting to two major international destinations. United Airlines announced it will begin nonstop flights to Munich and add an additional daily nonstop flight to Tokyo from George Bush Intercontinental Airport next spring.
The airline will launch the Munich service April 24, 2014, using a 242-seat Boeing 767-400. The flight will leave Bush daily at 4:10 p.m., arriving at Munich's Franz Joseph Strauss International Airport at 9:50 a.m. the next day. The return flight will depart Munich at 9:25 a.m. and arrive at 2:15 p.m. the same day. The airline currently operates daily nonstop service from Houston to Frankfurt.
The airline will add a second daily flight between Houston and Tokyo on March 30, 2014, in a 267-seat Boeing 777-200. It will depart Bush Intercontinental at 9 a.m. and arrive at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport at 12:35 p.m. the next day. The return flight will depart Tokyo at 6:55 p.m. and arrive in Houston at 4:55 p.m. the same day.
“In addition to adding more nonstop service from Houston, the flights are conveniently timed to provide one-stop connections at the hub from destinations across the Americas,” United's Houston regional sales director Cheryl Reed said in a statement.
While the additional nonstop flights are welcome news to international travelers, they will still have to continue to change planes when traveling on United between Houston and Paris. United offers no nonstop service between Houston and the French capital. Instead travelers on the airline have to change planes in Newark, Chicago or Washington, D.C. Travelers can fly nonstop between Houston and Paris on Air France.
We can only hope.
