Lawyers and those in need of pro bono legal counsel got a boost when the 61st annual Harvest Celebration at River Oaks Country Club brought in a record $620,000. The fundraiser, hosted by the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Bar Foundation and the HBA Auxiliary drew a crowd of 1,000 that spread throughout the club.
HBA president David Chaumette welcomed guests who poured in to the first floor ballroom and dining room. Foundation chair Glenn Ballard and wife Susan and auxiliary chair Annette Duggan and Judge Lee Duggan were part of the welcome committee. Those seeking more sustenance than the stand-up cocktail buffet on the main floor headed downstairs for the traditional Mexican buffet. The entire club, typically closed on Monday night, was reserved for the Harvest Celebration.
Funds raised support HBA's Houston Volunteer Lawyers, which provides pro bono legal services for low-income families.
The legal eagles and friends included Bill Ogden, Laura Gibson, Sheridan and John Eddie Williams, Sofia Adrogué, Macey and Harry Reasoner, Harris County Commissioner Steve Radack and Judge Sherry Radack, Melanie Gray, Judge Robert Schaffer and Rachel and Daryl Bristow.
