What: The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston annual fall luncheon.

Where: The Hilton Americas-Houston.

The 411: Golf commentator David Feherty took the serious subject of his recovery from alcoholism and turned it into a playful message with sobering undertones at the the Waggoners Foundation Speaker's Series fundraiser. He had the gathering of more than 1,000 laughing from start to finish of his entertaining speech. Luncheon chairs Chandos and Ike Epley and Miriam Westmoreland led the event to proceeds in excess of $600,000.

Big surprise: Former Friends star Matthew Perry was announced as keynote speaker for The Council's 2014 spring luncheon.

Who: Supporters included Ellen and John Rutherford, Gary Petersen, Sarah and Doug Foshee, Jerri Duddlesten Moore and Jim Moore, John Chilsom, Lisa Malosky and Don Friedell, Carol Farnsworth, Melissa and Doug Schnitzer, Rob Arnold, Mollly Sherman and The Council CEO Mel Taylor.
