What: Alzheimer's Association AWARE Luncheon.
Where: River Oaks Country Club.
The scoop: More than 200 guests turned out for the 16th annual luncheon that supports the Alzheimer's Women's Auxiliary for Resources and Education. The luncheon featured Dr. Joseph C. Masdeu, director of the Nantz National Alzheimer Center at Methodist Hospital. Masdeu is the first physician-scientist to detect an early imaging feature of Alzheimer’s disease. And it honored CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz and his wife Courtney, who have been instrumental in raising funds for the center which is named for Jim's father, Jim Nantz Jr., who battled Alzheimer’s disease for 13 years.
Channel 11's Chita Johnson emceed the luncheon, which raised $200,000.
Guests also celebrated the recent 2015 Houston Walk to End Alzheimer's, which drew more than 5,000 people and raised $620,000. It was the last of 13 area walks that raised more than $1.5 million for the Alzheimer's Association Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter.
