What: Santa Maria Hostel inaugural luncheon fundraiser.

Where: River Oaks Country Club.

The scoop: More than 260 guests turned out to raise $110,000 for the center that offers recovery for women and their children from various traumas including drug addiction, homelessness and abuse.

Guest speaker Deborah Jiang-Stein, founder of the "unPrison Project" and author of Prison Baby: A Memoir, shared her riveting story of triumph against the odds. She was born as a special needs, at-risk, heroin-addicted child in a federal prison. Today, she lives a life transformed as a writer, entrepreneur, mother and inventor.

The luncheon was chaired by Kelli Fondren and Lindsey Fondren Smith and honored Criminal District Court Judge Denise Bradley. Lisa Malosky handled duties as emcee.

Who: Judge Brock Thomas, Judge Katherine Cabaniss, Judge Bill Burke, Nadine Scamp, Tommy Austin, Michelle and Mark Allen, Nancy Burford, Ryland Holmes, Victoria Bryant, Douglas Hidalgo, Diva Heraso, Art Vivar and John Tipton.
