What: Degas: A New Vision preview and dinner.
Where: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
The Scoop: Art lovers, patrons and friends of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston came together for a vibrant-colored celebration of the new blockbuster exhibition, Degas: A New Vision. The 200 guest delighted in a special preview look at this exhibition of paintings, sculptures, prints and photograph by the Impressionist master, Edgar Degas. Those early art birds who turned up for the Conversations with the Director program received a surprise treat, a chance to experience the comedy stylings of MFAH director Gary Tinterow and former Louvre director Henri Loyrette, the exhibition’s curators. In their talk filled with easy banter and humor, the old friends offered insights into this new vision and perspective on the art of Degas.
After the Conversation, guests strolled through the exhibition, arranged throughout the Upper Brown Pavilion galleries, for an intimate gaze at these masterworks that have seldom been on view together. Once they were filled up with visions of Degas’s portraits of Parisian life, the party indulged in a City Kitchen crafted-dinner of Degas-inspired dishes, including his favorite, macaroni au gratin. Mac and cheese never tasted so lovely nor so French. Tinterow began the dinner with thanks to the many organizations, art institutions and private lenders and donors who had made Degas: A New Vision possible.
