What: Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston’s Tapestry Gala

Where: The Hilton Americas — Houston

The scoop: Houston’s top elected officials, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, joined the city’s beloved Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale to be honored by Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston at its annual Tapestry Gala, which raised more than $500,000.

Emmett, Turner and McIngvale were honored as “Heroes of Harvey” in addition to four outstanding IM volunteers, each representing a different division of IM: Meals on Wheels, Refugee Services, Interfaith Relations & Community Partnerships, and Volunteer Houston. The gala’s honorary chairs were Maria and Neil Bush; the presenting sponsor was Shell Oil Company.

Guests enjoyed fine dining, live music, and touching, firsthand stories about how Houston’s elected officials and extraordinary citizens helped the community through one of its most trying times.

Who: Brigitte and Bashar Kalai, Sippi and Ajay Khurana, Nihala and Shaukat Zakaria, the Zandstra family, Dr. Bimla and Swatantra Jain, the Subramanian family, and representatives from Frost Bank, CenterPoint Energy and Valley, an Elior Company, among others.
