What: ChildBuilders Awards Luncheon.

Where: River Oaks Country Club.

The scoop: Co-chairs Staci Henderson and Anika Jackson welcomed more than 200 guests who were treated to the talents of music prodigies Deondra and Desirae Brown, members of the famed piano troupe The 5 Browns. The sisters, who are sexual abuse survivors, stressed the importance of facing the future with hope despite such horrors and applauded ChildBuilders for its work in the Houston schools to prevent sexual, verbal and physical abuse.

Jack Sutter was saluted with the Muriel Folloder Phillips Volunteer of the Year Award, while the Michael and Lucia Cordúa family received the Amazing Grace Award, named in honor of Grace Mandola. Texas Children’s Hospital was the corporate honoree.

The event raised over $100,000 for ChildBuilders programs that promote healthy social and emotional development of young people and strengthen the families in our community.

Who: Supporting the cause were ChildBuilders board president Debbie Martinez, with husband Vidal Martinez, Phyllis and Tony Mandola, Joyce Haufrect, Julie and Marc Boom, Danielle Ellis, Ginni Mithoff, master of ceremonies Ernie Manouse, ChildBuilders executive director Steve Lawrence, Dina Winkler, Mandy Kao, Fritz Lucio McDonald, and jewelry designer Peter Martino, who donated a gorgeous vintage gold necklace as the raffle item.
