From witches to werewovlves to the walking dead, Houstonians have jumped at the chance to step out in costumes this Halloween season. CultureMap has encountered more than 1,500 costumed revelers and photographed almost 200.
From that lot, we picked our faves for this Halloween.
Pirates seemed to be the most popular costume of the season — sexy, macho and provocative. Seidy Battista, Geoff Dunker, Ashra Dunker step out Ronald McDonald House Boo Ball a la Johnny Depp.
At Easter Seals, The Bash Mike and Kim Brueggerhoff played convincing living dead.
Shushana Castle, Jack Castle and Rich Beaver made for a deliciously irreverent trio at The Bash.
Who wouldn't agree that Lady Bunny is the best-dressed costume character in the city? We love drag queens!
We love their makeup, their eyelashes and their panache. Lady Bunny rocked the naughty at Hotel ZaZa.
Jennifer Barcelo and Tim Achor won first prize at Easter Seals The Bash for their creative portrayal of William and Kate.
Leave it to Mike and Carol Linn to be tres creative in their costuming. As "social climbers," they dressed formally waist up and in full climbing gear waist down.
The ropes and other gear is from Bering's Hardware of all places. We spotted them at the Ronald McDonald House Boo Ball
Evan and Lisa Meeks dressed to their own drummers for The Bash while Marion and Dr. Kyle Woerner went all out as the living dead.
Sarah Taylor found her Princess Leia costume at starwars.com, while Chris bought his Star Wars stormtrooper gear on eBay. This was their fourth time attending Easter Seals The Bash.
Twins! Dana Weaver and Diana Fallows playing pirate gals. Need we say anything else? They strutted through the costume parade of 1,000 guests at the Boo Ball.
Dr. Ayeez Lalji won for scariest costuming as a wicked vampire at the Arthritis Foundation Bone Bash, accompanied by a more gentle being, Dr. Shelena Lalji.
We love John and Diane Riley in their Raggedy Andy and Raggedy Ann costuming with drinks in their hands!
Our kind of dolls! The Boo Ball was indeed fun.
Scareeeee! Lisa Holthouse made for a sexy, slim catwoman at the Boo Ball while Michael Holthouse was truly menacing in his skeletal costume.
Now this is one elaborate witch costume. Karen Garcia went all out for the Saturday night bash that she and husband Roland Garcia hosted at their home.
This trio was a bloody mess at The Bash. Katie Coate, from left, Robin Haffner and Susanne Thompson worked it.
Partying at The Bash were Patricia Johnson, from left, David Johnson, Linda Kornmann and Ryan Kormann.
Only social x-rays could pull off these body hugging costumes, from left, Alice Mosing, Jana Arnoldy, Kim Tutcher and Laurie Morian. They lighted up the night at the Boo Ball.
Tracey Robertson and Shelley Robinson were just too cute at the Bone Bash not to give them a round of applause.
Sabrina Quintanilla might be petite but this gal is packing heat and she looks serious. Partygoers at Hotel ZaZa kept their distance.
Molly and Ron Ellis add a colorful note to the Bone Bash.
For those who can't get enough of Erica Rose, we revisit her costume for the Garcia Halloween party where she partied with Sabra Martin.
