With Aaron Parazette as Texas Artist of the Year and with Judy and Scott Nyquist honored as Patrons of the Year, the Art League Houston annual gala was all but guaranteed to be a success.
And, indeed, the "Carnival of Cool" evening at Hotel ZaZa saw 360 art fans pour in for the carnival-themed activities and for bidding on a delicious array of works by local artists. Gala chairs Art League board member Sarah Bray and PaperCity executive editor Catherine Anspon oversaw the evening that included carnival fare and swaying to the sounds of Divisi Strings.
Contributing to the auction that did 30 percent better than last year were 50 artists including Jesús Moroles, James Surls, Patrick Turk, McKay Otto and Nicola Parente.
Art aficionados included Michael Skelly and Anne Whitlock, Sharon Engelstein, Robert McClain, Laurann Claridge and William Zeitz, Barbara Davis, Carol Isaak Barden, Randall Jamail, George Lancaster, Victoria and Marshal Lightman, Stuart Rosenberg and Sarah Balinskas.
