Donna Karan founded the ambassadors program that salutes a sprinkling of women from across the country who are recognized for their philanthropy, their fashion savvy and business acumen. For two days at the start of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, the designer and her team treat the ladies to rounds of wining and dining and coveted seats at her spring show.
The Houston ambassadors and 10 others unpacked their bags at the sleek Surrey Hotel (Houston's Lauren Rottet and her team did the modern interiors) and were whisked via limo across the city for a feasts at Daniel Boulud and at Tom Colicchio's new Riverpark restaurant on the banks of the East River.
Highlight of the ladies' visit was key seating (directly behind Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington and across the aisle from Bianca Jagger, Bernadette Peters, Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons) at the Donna Karan spring 2013 show (see it here).
Following the show the designer spent quality time with her ambassadors discussing all manner of subjects including Karan's excitement about her new venture Urban Zen. Karan owns 100 percent of that business that has just opened with a shop in the Village, that would be in New York, not Houston. Ten percent of sales go to the Urban Zen Foundation.
Where the players dine
They don't call it the Houston Texans Grille for nothing. Even though it's way across town from Reliant Stadium, the CITYCENTRE eatery seems to be a magnet for football types. For the season's first Monday Night Football game, the place hosted Texans left tackle Duane Brown. He signed autographs for an hour and then hung out with the fans, had dinner and watched the game on one of the 66-inch high-def TVs.
Texans linebacker Darryl Sharpton, on the PUP list due to a knee injury, also took in a meal and watched Monday Night Football.
On Sunday evening, Texans tight end Garrett Graham visited the restaurant after the win over the Miami Dolphins. He and his family to dined in the Owner's Box, one of the restaurant's private rooms.
Valerie and Tracy Dieterich joining Divya and Chris Brown for their first taste at Sparrow Bar + Cookshop earlier this week, Don Mafrige, Catherine and Dean Giuffre and Andrew Echols giving Monica Pope's new eatery a thumbs up . . .
