So they're lagging on the playing field, but how are those Houston Astros on the dance floor? We'll find out Sept. 15 when the Astros Foundation hosts the first "Dancing With the 'Stros" benefit dance-off at the House of Blues.
Pitchers Jarred Cosart, Dallas Keuchel and Lucas Harrell, as well as infielder/outfielder Jake Elmore and All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve are on tap to partner with professional dancers in the competition that will be judged by the toughest critics — their Astros' teammates.
The competition will be judged by the toughest critics — their Astros' teammates.
The guys will shake their booties to tunes they select themselves, but they'll have help with the dance moves from professional choreographers a la ABC's Dancing With the Stars.
The House of Blues action will crank up following the 1:10 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Angels, with an estimated start of around 7:30 p.m. Insuring that the crowd will be generous with its applause, a cocktail reception kicks off at 6 p.m.
The email announcing the benefit advises, "Sponsorships and a limited number of individual tickets are available for purchase." There will be no ticket sales at the door, advance purchase required.
Details are available here or by calling 713-259-8851.
The concept as a fundraiser has proved successful for Houston Ballet and Becca Cason Thrash, who each year chairs "Dancing With Houston Stars" for which bold-faced types are paired with ballet dancers in a competition judged by dinner guests.
