Applause, applause for Dr. Angelo Giardino, chief medical officer with Texas Children's Health Plan, and Channel 13 KTRK news anchor Dave Ward, both of whom were honored by Justice for Children at the annual gala held at Hotel ZaZa.
Chaired by Laura and Lee Slataper, the evening saw a record crowd of 225 raise more than $125,000 for the national child advocacy organization founded in Houston by Randy Burton. The evening marked the non-profit's 25th anniversary.
Giardino was honored with the Harvey Houck Jr. Award and Ward received media honors.
Turning out in support of Justice for Children were previous Harvey Houck Jr. Award winners including Carolyn Farb, Alene Ross Levy and Judge Jan Krocker. Others in the mix included assistant district attorney Rachel Palmer Hooper, Marthann and Mike Weaber, Michael Bertuccio, Eloise Frischkorn, Sean Finn and Natalie Reitman, Jonathan Tinkle, Susan and Jimmy Olguin and Jo and Jim Furr.
