Fast food drive-in Sonic has opened a new location on Washington Avenue just east of Studemont. It's good news for residents of Rice Military, Montrose and other Neartown neighborhoods who previously had to drive all the way to South Main for a fix.

It's also great for regulars on the club scene who can fill up on hot dogs and tots before heading to Hughes Hangar, Kung Fu and other hot spots. While a CultureMap source noted that over the weekend a line of cars, with patrons who no doubt craved a Cherry Limeade, had extended out into the street, things were pretty quiet Monday afternoon around 1.

As always, service was friendly and enthusiastic. The location sports two drive-thru lanes for extra-speedy ordering.

Sonic ice is as crunchable as ever.
