Gelato Blu remains open (contrary to rumors), doubling up at Magnolia

Home to some of the best gelato in town, Gelato Blu has earned raves for its sweet treats and authentic Italian espresso drinks. So it seemed surprising when reports surfaced that the owners had closed the Memorial location.

It seems that rumors of Gelato's death are greatly exaggerated.

The store is open. The confusion may have occurred because the store hours changed on Monday (it now opens at 2 p.m. instead of 11 a.m.) and there are plans for a second location at downtown's Magnolia Hotel.

With an opening expected in the fall, Magnolia Hotel rep Kristin Yaris said the space will be built out on the main lobby floor, with an entrance from the street to attract hotel guests and passersby alike.

(Update: Magnolia officials say that the concept will be called Coffee Cafe, though it will have the same owners and menu as Gelato Blu.)

But north bank residents will be happy to know they won't have to venture off Memorial for a dose of the sweet stuff.
