Anvil Bar & Refuge gets a lot of national attention, but its latest accolade puts it in an elite group.

The Montrose bar has been nominated for Best American Bar in The Spirited Awards, part of Tales of The Cocktail, an annual cocktail festival that's become legend in the industry in the past 10 years. This is the sixth year of The Spirited Awards, which "recognize the bartenders, bars, writers and cocktail experts that continue to push the cocktail industry into new, exciting directions."

Anvil is one of 10 finalists for the category out of hundreds of nominees. It's competing against some big names in the industry, including San Francisco's Bourbon & Branch, Los Angeles newcomer Harvard & Stone, Clover Club in Brooklyn and Manhattan's Mayahuel.

The winner of the Best American Bar and 16 other categories will be announced at an awards ceremony on July 28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans, part of the four-day festival of cocktail events and adventures.

Congratulations to Anvil for continuing to make Houston proud (and drunk)!
