5 Houston spots wage a juicy war with this beefy burger battle

Houston loves a good chef head-to-head, but in this one, diners are the real competitors. National Burger Month kicks off May 1, and a Houston wholesaler has teamed up with five restaurants for an epic, 31-day burger war, dubbed the HTX Burger Battle.

Cake & Bacon, which supplies breads, pastries, pies, viennoiserie, charcuterie, sausage and pasture-raised products to eateries across the city, is hosting the event with partner restaurants Craft Burger Food Truck’s Main Street outpost, Down House, Leeland House, Just GRK, and Elliot’s Table.

Diners are encouraged to sample as many burgers as possible, then post and/or tag their experiences on Instagram. At the end of the month, Cake & Bacon will choose one winner to receive a dozen mixed goodies from Cake & Bacon, a box of Cake & Bacon swag, and a $20 gift card from each participating restaurant. Participants should tag the restaurant and @cakeandbacon, plus #HTXbb. The winner will be selected and announced on Monday, June 3.

Here are the burgers that are battling it out:

Craft Burger
Curried lamb burger, wild arugula, marinated cucumbers, oven dried tomatoes, local goat cheese, and roasted garlic Tzatziki on a Cake & Bacon challah bun. Served with fries.

Down House
44 farms ground beef patty, habanero confit aioli, smoked habanero and blackberry hot sauce, scotch bonnet dill pickles, Cabot cheddar, tempura Serrano peppers, and Beelers apple smoked bacon on a Cake & Bacon sesame seed bun. Served with fries.

Leeland House
Eight-ounce beef burger, shaved lettuce, tomato, onion, fried mustard, and pickles on a Cake & Bacon bun. Served with rosemary fries.

Just GRK
Special blend whole muscle patty (NY Strip, Chuck, Eye of Round), melted Kasseri cheese, cucumber relish, tomato, olive oil, oregano, and spicy feta, on a Cake & Bacon bun. Served with Housemade Santorinifries (roasted grape tomatoes, feta, green onions, olive oil, oregano).

Hand-pressed beef patty, arugula, herbed goat cheese, Gorgonzola, bacon, grilled red onions, and balsamic glaze on a Cake & Bacon bun. Served with fries.
