When is someone going to give Tilman Fertitta his own competition-style business reality show? Fertitta, the owner and CEO of Landry's, Inc., is a Forbes-certified billionaire and certainly knows how to give a good quote.
He's also proven a much abler businessman than comb-overed buffoon Donald Trump, with a restaurant empire featuring more than a dozen concepts and a growing casino business with Golden Nuggets in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Laughlin and another coming soon.
Landry's has acquired the Isle Casino in Biloxi, Miss., for $45 million, and plans to transform it into the fourth Golden Nugget. With 720 rooms and suites, the Golden Nugget Biloxi will be the third-largest casino in the Biloxi/Gulfport region and after a $100 million renovation will feature an expanded casino floor, upgraded guest rooms and the addition of a trio of Landry's dining concepts: Morton's Steakhouse, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Lillie's Asian Cuisine.
"We’ve been looking to extend the Golden Nugget’s footprint to Biloxi for years and we’re excited to make major changes to the property and to the South, a personal interest of mine," Fertitta said in a statement. “The Golden Nugget transformation will rejuvenate Biloxi, much as we have helped rejuvenate Downtown Las Vegas and most recently the Marina District in Atlantic City.”
