Bye-bye, boutique: Hyatt buys The Woodlands' Avia Hotel, name change & chain status ahead

The signature boutique hotel in The Woodlands is getting a new name and a new owner.

AVIA The Woodlands brought a new level of style and sophistication to Market Street in The Woodlands when the 70-room hotel opened in December 2009. Now the AVIA line and other brands by parent company LodgeWorks have been sold to Hyatt.

The purchase includes 24 properties, including the quartet of AVIA Hotels and the extended-stay Hotel Sierra brand, and is reported to be valued at $802 million in cash from Hyatt. The AVIA in the Woodlands will be rebranded as a Hyatt, but no other properties in the Houston area will be affected.

What did you think of AVIA? Do you think that Hyatt ownership will be an upgrade?
