Southern Living, also known as your mom's favorite magazine that doesn't feature Oprah on the cover every month, has a feature on Houston's Lower Westheimer strip in the December issue.

Describing the neighborhood as "funky" (your mom's favorite word!), the spread mercifully ignores the much-reviled LoWest nickname and focuses on the plethora of new dining and nightlife options, including Underbelly, El Real Tex-Mex, Anvil, Uchi and Hay Merchant.

While there are still enough of the "tattoo parlors and flamboyant nightclubs" that Southern Living implied made the street previously so "rough-and-tumble" it's actually nice to see a magazine whose readership might otherwise stick to Tiny Boxwood's and the restaurants in Highland Village touting a genuinely exciting mix of restaurants and bars.
