It's happened to all of us. You walk into a bar, order a Bombshell Blonde and almost choke on your oversized pretzel when the $7 tab shows up.
Luckily Hay Merchant is giving beer lovers a chance to drink great craft brews from Houston and beyond at Anheuser-Busch prices.
To promote Montrose's biking community, anyone who arrives at the Merch on two wheels can now enjoy glasses of a designated Karbach beer for $3 just by informing the bartender that they came via bike. Hay Merchant also kicked off a monthly bike crawl from the bar to Karbach brewery on Monday.
The bar will designate one tap that will be offered for $3, with a different beer on offer every day for 30 days.
"Sometimes it might be IPA sometimes it might be Lager but it will always be Karbach and it will always be $3," Hay Merchant's Facebook page reads.
Want more beer options for less coin? Hay Merchant is celebrating Houston Beer Week all month long, and starting on Nov. 12 the bar will designate one tap that will be offered for $3, with 30 different beers on offer every day for 30 days. Look for a red chalk marker on the beer board to find the deals of the day on brews including (512) Wit, Frankonia Dunkel, Brooklyn Lager and — drum roll please — Southern Star Bombshell Blonde.
If that's not enough, Hay Merchant is also competing with other bars across America to be named the "most arrogant," which, you know, will be such a stretch from the humble gentlemen who brought us Anvil. (Hey, like Muhammad Ali said, it's not bragging if you can back it up.) Or, as the appropriately boastful press release puts it, "Houston’s Hay Merchant To Win Most Arrogant Bar In America Competition."
In this instance, winning most arrogant bar means selling the most Arrogant Bastard Ales, so from Nov. 9 to 18, Hay Merchant is offering pints, half-pints, growlers, half-growlers and kegs to-go at special prices. Pints of Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, and Lucky Bastard are — you guessed it — $3, while pints of Arrogant Bastard ale are even cheaper at $2.
