Chefs hanging out at a bar? That's not exactly news. But when you gather some of Houston's best chefs and stick them behind the bar to serve drinks, that's, as Angela Chase would say, a time.

That's also exactly what Chris Frankel, a top mixologist and wine guy formerly of Anvil and Underbelly, is creating every Monday night in September at Double Trouble Caffeine & Cocktails. "Drink with the Chefs" is a continuation of a Monday night series that has seen some of Houston's best bartenders like Alex Gregg and Justin Burrow create their own one-night-only drink menus at Double Trouble.

Each chef will not only be creating a cocktail menu but will also be serving drinks to guests from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m., so don't expect any mojitos.

The lineup of chef's taking a turn behind the bar includes Tony's executive chef Grant Gordon on Sept. 3, Justin Basye of Les Sauvages dinner fame taking over on Sept. 10, Plonk's Erin Smith on Sept. 17 and Brandi Key of Coppa and Amanda McGraw of Brasserie 19 combining their bartender talents on Sept. 24.

Each chef will not only be creating a cocktail menu but will also be serving drinks to guests from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m., so don't expect any mojitos. You might have to expect a very rough Tuesday, though.
