NEW YORK — Just about every spring 2014 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week ended with a showstopping gown — or several. Here are some favorites that will be in stores after the first of the year or at trunk shows in the next few months:

---------

Color was lacking in many collections, but not at Ralph Lauren. The designer's mod line-up featured glorious shades, like this cobalt blue silk gazaar gown worn by mode-of-moment Karlie Kloss. (Update: Girls co-star Allison Williams wore this gown to the Emmys.)

J. Mendel closed his show with a stunning black graphic lace embroidered gown. It looks even sexier in person.

Carolina Herrera's spring collection featured non-traditional spring colors and overlays that create an optical illusion. Shown here, model Hilary Rhoda in a shell pink and crimson silk crepe gown with embellished tulle overlay.

Oscar de la Renta remains a favorite of Texas socialites because he continues to create show-stopping gowns that get noticed. Here, he closed his show with model Joan Smalls in a frothy citrine silk faille and tulle with black filigree embroidery.

Ralph Rucci creates classic couture-quality gowns. Shown here, an elegant nude knitted sheath and cardigan.

Donna Karan often experiments with tribal prints and asymmetrical draping Here, model Karlie Kloss wears a musk/black jet embroidered block printed stretch silk chiffon evening gown.

The Marchesa lingerie-inspired collection included this attention-getting black gown with white floral embroidery.

Naeem Khan has a strong Texas following for his distinctive gowns. For spring, his collection centers on the romance and vibrant colors in Latin culture, with a Spanish rose theme — "A symbol of love and beauty,' Khan notes. Shown here, floral embroidered one-shoulder trumpet gown, left, floral embroidered dolman sleeve georgette caftan gown with back cutout.

Bibhu Mohapatra's well-crafted collection includes this onyx fracture faille gown with draped skirt. He will present his full spring collection at Fashion Houston on Nov.13.

Badgley Mischka's strapless red gown is a classic that never goes out of style

Diane von Furstenberg usually concentrates on daywear but her foray into evening takes a dramatic turn with this strapless gown in a copper shade with 3-D undertones worn by model Karlie Kloss.

Nicole Miller closed her runway show with this scroll applique black and ivory silk gown. Miller will show her entire spring collection at Fashion Houston on Nov. 13.

Tory Burch ventures into eveningwear with this jeweled Queen Anne's lace print organza gown that has an easy, breezy feeling.

Queen of the night Monique Lhuillier goes for a softer, more casual evening look in this floral long skirt and peach crop top.

BCBG Max Azria black lace and tulle gown.

Celebrating his 30th year in business, Tadashi Shoji has drawn a red-carpet following from stars like Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. Shown here, an off-white column sequined gown with feathered hem.

Carmen Marc Valvo closed his show with a black double face leather and organza ball gown.

Zac Posen's peach silk chiffon and mikado corseted ruffle gown accentuates a curvy body.

Carolina Herrera smoky and shell pink kinetic square print viscose gown with silk organza overlay and smoky umber with black peplum mesh belt.

Oscar de la Renta strapless teal gown. (Update: Mad Men's Jessica Pare wore this gown to the Emmys.)

Rebecca Minkoff floral gown exudes a springtime flair.

Oscar de la Renta is in a colorful mood for spring with a coral strapless gown with tulle skirt.

Carolina Herrera ivory silk crepe top and sienna silk crepe long skirt.

Ralph Rucci black paper rose jacket and evening slacks.

Bibhu Mohapatra sage pleated mousseline gown with fractured detail cage.
