The Woodlands flexes its shopping clout with new Nordstrom: Long-awaited spot becomes a reality

Nordstrom will open its second Houston-area, full-line store in The Woodlands Mall. Live Malls

No more schlepping to the Galleria for swanky department store shopping: After years of futile rumors, Nordstrom has finally officially announced it's opening  a full-line store in The Woodlands Mall. (CultureMap reported on a Nordstrom going there back in July.)

The department store, which is slated to open in fall 2014, will set up shop in the two-level, 138,000 square-foot anchor pad that will be left vacant when Sears closes next year.

That space was sold in a bundle deal to General Growth Properties, which owns the mall, back in February.

The store in The Woodlands Mall will be the fourth Nordstrom in the Houston area, including Nordstrom Rack discount outlets at Post Oak and at Sugar Land's Town Center.

"We are thrilled to add Nordstrom to The Woodlands Mall, furthering it as a premier retail and dining destination in the greater Houston area," Sandeep Mathrani, chief executive officer of General Growth Properties, said in a press release.
