As construction of the new Nordstrom store in The Woodlands heads toward a post-Labor Day opening, builders got a little help as neighborhood kids recently had a tile painting party at The Woodlands Children's Museum to create items that will be part of the store's decor. More than 200 participants paid $35 each to take part in the party and all proceeds from tickets sales went to the museum, raising nearly $7,500.
The decorated fish-shaped tiles will be installed in the store's "Kids Wear" department in time for the store's official grand opening Sept. 5 in The Woodlands Mall. The retailer will also host a gala grand opening party on Sept. 3, benefiting Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands.
The new store is generating a lot of excitement in The Woodlands, as residents delight at having one less reason to make the daring trek to The Galleria, where the only full-line Nordstrom in the Houston area is currently located. The two-level, 138,000 square-foot Woodlands store, on the site of a former Sears store, is being built from the ground up and will carry the full range of Nordstrom goods.
The retailer also operates three Nordstrom Rack stores in the Houston area (Post Oak, Bunker Hill and Town Center in Sugar Land).
