Most 17-year-olds are getting ready to head off to college, but New Zealand singer Lorde is on a slightly different trajectory: She'll come to Houston March 5 at Bayou Music Center as part of her first North American tour.
In fact, Texans get first dibs at seeing her, as she'll kick off the tour in Austin on March 3 and then head to Dallas on March 4 before visiting 15 other cities in the U.S. and Canada.
Lorde is one of the breakout stars of 2013 thanks to her debut album, Pure Heroine, and its inescapable hit single, "Royals," which recently finished a nine-week run as the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lorde received four Grammy nominations for her work, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Lorde has been praised for her singing and songwriting abilities — she co-wrote all 10 songs on Pure Heroine — but it will be interesting to see if she has the courage of her convictions going forward. "Royals" famously disses the excesses that often come along with fame, but her quick rise already has her cozying up to other famous people. Taylor Swift celebrated her 24th birthday as at party with Lorde in Melbourne, Australia, over the weekend.
Tickets for the Houston concert go on sale to the general public on Friday (Dec. 20), with presale to Citi cardmembers beginning Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 10 a.m.
