Talk about a night of musical contrasts. First, the Houston Symphony's Young Professionals Backstage (YPB) attended the first classical concert of the season Thursday night starring Chinese pianist Lang Lang. Then, 150 of them headed to Pete's Dueling Piano Bar for a raucous after-party.

While Lang Lang's presentation of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2 had them entranced, it was the pop tunes from across the decades at Pete's that had this crowd so energized that they sang along to their favorite tunes into the wee morning hours.

It was sip, nosh and boggie for YPBs who included Katie Chachere, Adam Van Doren and Gira Desai, Shannon and Ron Lee, Catherine and Mason Herring, Eric and Kim Underwood and a handful of symphony musicians including Anthony Prisk, Adam Dinitz and principal oboist Jonathan Fischer.
