Dear celebrities: Whatever you do, stay the hell away from Sierra Blanca, Texas.
Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson and The Social Network's Armie Hammer have all been arrested for drug possession there. Now Fiona Apple has joined the ignominious list after being arrested for possession of hashish on Wednesday night. (The arrest was first reported by TMZ.)
Apple's tour bus was traveling east on I-10 to Texas from a tour stop in Mesa, Ariz., when it was stopped at the mandatory U.S. Customs and Border Protection checkpoint.
Think famous people are getting scrutinized more harshly? Not exactly. According to the El Paso Times, an average of six drug cases a day are referred to the sheriff's office from the border patrol. It's a controversial little cottage industry.
TMZ reports that Apple is still in jail in Sierra Blanca as of Thursday morning, and there has been no word on whether her arrest would mean postponing or cancelling her upcoming Texas concerts. Apple is scheduled to perform Thursday night in Austin at the Moody Theater and on Friday at Houston's Bayou Music Center.
