We're barely past the half-way mark of the summer movie season (so far, The Avengers and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted have been big hits, while Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Battleship, Rock of Ages and That’s My Boy have performed dismally and The Dark Knight Risesout next week, is expected to be a blockbuster) but already movie makers are gearing up for next summer.

The makers of an animated movie, Epic, sent us this first peek trailer, and while we aren't usually that attracted to animated movies, the trailer has an Avatar-like quality that's mesmerizing.

While not in this trailer, Beyoncé Knowles is lending her voice to the movie as Queen Tara, alongside Colin Farrell, Steven Tyler, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Jason Sudeikis and Pitbull. It is the first movie project for the singer since giving birth to daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in January.

From the producers of animated flicks Ice Age and Rio, Epic tells the story of "a teenage girl who finds herself magically transported into a secret world, where she must band together with a rag-tag team of characters to save their world —and the real world," according to the press release.

We're marking the calendar for opening day May 24, 2013.
