Local contemporary music group Musiqa has been awarded its third consecutive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Musiqa is a non-profit made up of five composers. It blends dance, poetry, theater, film and visual arts with contemporary classical music.

The 2010 Access to Artistic Excellence Grant will support the group's educational programming, which puts on free concerts for students in Houston area public schools. Musiqa's performed for nearly 25,000 students in the last six years.

Musiqa's seventh season of school programs premieres Oct. 26 for grades second through fourth. All performances are provided to the students free of charge with Musiqa covering the cost of school bus transportation as well as an in-school workshop and concert tickets.
