Soulful singer Sam Smith has enjoyed quite the breakout year since the release of his debut album, In the Lonely Hour. Now  Houston fans will be able to see him perform in a venue commensurate to his stature when he plays at the Toyota Center on August 14 as part of a forthcoming North American tour.

Smith will also make stops in Austin on Aug. 15 and in Dallas on Aug. 17, the last stop on his tour. In all, Smith will visit 19 cities in the United States and Canada in a month.

Smith rose to fame in 2014, mostly thanks to the ubiquitous presence of his hit song "Stay With Me." That song somehow never reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, but it did net him two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Smith also won Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Tickets go on sale to the public beginning Friday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m.; American Express card members can purchase tickets before the general public, from Feb. 23 at 10 am through Feb. 26 at 10 p.m.

Smith was scheduled to perform in the much smaller surroundings of the House of Blues Houston last October but canceled due to a bout of  tonsillitis.
