Whether you’ve enjoyed a set of Grandfather Child at Cactus or rocked out to them at Fitzgerald’s, you understand. Anyone who’s listened to this local band play has a special appreciation for band member Lucas Gorham’s on-stage performances and off-stage songwriting. So when the lap steel guitar savant with a smooth-as-butter voice suffered a terrible accident on the way to his way to mother's house, music mavens around Houston immediately rallied around him in support.

When cycling over railroad tracks, Gorham’s bike was caught on the track and he flipped over, landing on his shoulder and crushing his collarbone. After some confusion about whether he needed surgery or not, Gorham has been trying to function as well as anyone with a broken clavicle can.

This might not be as difficult if Gorham were at an office job all day, but as a teacher at Nameless Sound, an organization that supports local music education and lends instruction to young people, he has to lug around heavy music equipment all day. With Gorham unable to lift more than five pounds, he can no longer perform any of his day job, workshop duties.

To help Gorham cover his medical expenses and get him back to work and back on stage, many of his music and hospitality industry friends are putting on a fundraising concert to help. The concert will be held at Fitzgerald’s Sunday night and will feature an impressive roundup of local acts, a raffle and discounted drinks all night.

Tickets start at $10, but you’re welcome to donate as much as you’d like to help get a local artist, friend to the community and music mentor to kids back to entertaining and teaching.

Here is a sample of bands that will take the stage this Sunday, with others set to join in, too:

  • Black Congress (electronics set)
  • The Suffers
  • Will Van Horn (Robert Ellis)
  • Sergio Trevino (Buxton)
  • Taylor Lee (Finnegan, The Wandering Buffaleros)
  • Second Lovers
  • Kelly Doyle Trio (Robert Ellis)
  • Grandfather Child (blues/psychedelic/R&B brilliance)

If you can’t attend but want to help, donate by purchasing a ticket online or by submitting a raffle item before the concert on Sunday evening.
