The Sundance Film Festival is the place for independent movies, but Park City, Utah, is also a prime spot for celebrity watching at the non-stop parties that make up a big part of the festivities. Here are some of our favorite scenes about town.

-----------------------------

Kristen Wiig strikes a post at the Columbia Lounge.

The Film Texas party, sponsored by the Texas Film Commission and film commissions in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, drew a fun crowd. (See more photos of this party later in this story.)

At the Variety Studio: Sundance Edition party, sponsored by Dark Horse Wine, Ryan Reynolds, politely declined the free swag. "I have a very good job,"  he said.

Here, he poses with James Franco.

Sarah Silverman brought along her own team for a pickup basketball game  at the tony Promontory Ranch Club near Park City.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Silverman met the guys in the lobby of her hotel. The newspaper reports that the young men "all looked young and kind of star-struck, like they'd high-five one another after she left."

"OK, so I'll text you later," she told them.

"How adorable are they?" she said to the LA Times reporter. "We're all going to go play basketball later."

At the Film Texas party, from left, Austin-based producer Jason Wehling, Texas Film Commission staffer Kim LeBlanc, Houston-based actor Tishuan Scott, who co-stars in Results, and Dallas Film Commissioner Janis Burkland.

Jonathan Bennett and Kellan Lutz pal around at The One Group's After-Dark Dance Party at Rock & Reilly's.

Girls creator and star Lena Dunham stopped by Village at the Lift to enjoy a kale salad and meatballs from the Stella Artois Café featuring dishes from Animal.

At the Film Texas party, from left, Clinger co-producer Bubba Fish, his sister, his mom Shari Fish, John Hilary Shepherd and Ryan Thompson.

Actors Sam Rockwell, second from right, and Danny McBride, right, hit the blackjack tables at the Don Verdean Official After Party hosted by Lionsgate and ARIA Resort & Casino. McBride walked away as the evening's big winner.  The actors star in Don Verdean with Amy Ryan and Will Forte.

At the Film Texas party, from left, Emily Gipson, Todd McMullen, Texas Film Commissioner Heather Page and Caitlan McFarland. Gipson and McFarland & co-founded ATX Festival.

Director Kevin Smith, who visited the Columbia Lounge, proves he is a snappy dresser.

Gina Rodriguez, the Golden Globe-winning star of the hit CW series Jane The Virgin, posed for photos outside of the Village at the Lift complex in downtown Park City.

The Louisiana International Film Festival threw a rockin' party called Midnight Masquerade, featuring entertainment by  CC Adcock and the Lafayette Marquis band. It drew a standing-room only crowd  — plus at least one alligator.

At the Merrell #TrailScape in downtown Park City, comedian Pauly Shore took part in the Oculus Rift experience. Among the celebrities who stopped by were rapper Common, former NBA All-Star Chris Webber, and Dope co-star Julian Brand.

Glee star Dianna Agron, in Park City to promote her new film Zipper, drew attention at the Variety Studio: Sundance Edition party when she stopped by the Dark Horse Workshop, where branded leather goods were available for the stars. Agron was wearing a Burberry print dress.

Houstonians Dana Sneed, Kitty Strain, Susan Hanson and Nancy Ormand were in Park City for a ski trip, so they didn't see any films or stars. But they did happen upon the Sundance TV Lenscrafters photo booth and snapped some photos to remember.
