It has become common knowledge that Houston is the place to find a job, but a recent ranking by employer-stalking site Glassdoor.com proves that this is also the place to find a job that you actually like.
The Bayou City makes a strong showing on the site's 50 Best Places to Work, with the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at No. 5 on the list — just a few spots beneath the top-rated Facebook, where there are essentially no rules and employee perks overfloweth, and a spot above Google, whose offices are basically like an adult playground.
"Each person who works here feels like we make a difference, it's not just a job," wrote one reviewer of their position at M.D. Anderson, a top-rated cancer research and treatment facility. Its overall employee satisfaction is a 4.3 out of 5.

Other Houston-affiliated companies on the list include Chevron, No. 13; Shell Oil, No. 18; Fluor, No. 37; Dow Chemical, No. 44; and Eaton Corp at No. 49. Many others have area locations — like IKEA, Apple, Starbucks and Trader Joe's — where employees enjoy a distinct corporate culture that belies each company's global scale.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines landed No. 12 overall, with 4.2 out of 5 stars, and National Instruments, a software company headquartered in Austin, took eighth on the list.
