There has been a rash of gunpoint robberies around the University of Houston campus during this fall semester, so a 10:30 p.m. email Wednesday from the university warning students of an armed suspect near the Recreation & Wellness Center didn't come as a total shock.

Responding to a call that alerted campus police to a gunman inside of that building, officers evacuated hundreds of students and led a thorough, 30-minute search of the facility — it turned up negative, leading some to believe that the call was a hoax. Police issued an "all clear" at 10:52 p.m.

KHOU reports that authorities are working to trace the call that first alerted them of a gunman on campus, in hopes of getting to the bottom of the situation.
