In this week's CultureMap Moment on KHOU Morning News, we focus on Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) activities in Houston.

At Casa Ramierz, a Mexican folk art gallery in the Heights, owner Macario Ramirez explains the age-old tradition of honoring deceased love ones with altars and celebrations while at Lawndale Art Center, executive director Christine Welch explains about the exhibits that fill the Main Street gallery, including Day of the Dead interpretations by 21 Houston-area schools and retablos designed by 200 artists.

Lawndale is hosting a free Día de los Muertos Family Day Fiesta, Saturday from noon until 4 p.m., with performances by Houston Grand Opera, Mixteco Ballet Folklorico and Paedarchy Puppets

Day of the Day exhibitions remain on display through Nov. 10 at Casa Ramierz, 241 W. 19th St., and at Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main Street.
