After encircling the rooftops of Houston on Wednesday, the Space Shuttle Endeavour — piggybacking upon a Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft — made its way to Ellington Field, just down the road from NASA's headquarters at Johnson Space Center.
Thousands of visitors tuned into UStream footage of the landing and many other space enthusiasts crowded the tarmac at the airport, watching as it passed back and forth over the Ellington runway for more than 30 minutes, descending for almost-touch-downs before swooping back up.
I, for one, breathed a sigh of relief upon the aircraft's safe landing.
Endeavour came to a stop near the NASA Hangar 990 pedestrian gate, where it will remain on view from as close at 100 feet away until 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
The general public is also invited to give final farewells to the space craft around sunrise on Thursday, before the last legs of is voyage to the California coast.
