A light rail crash in the Texas Medical Center landed 10 people in nearby hospitals Tuesday morning as a vehicle collided with a METRO train at Fannin and Cambridge near Hermann Park.
METRO spokesperson Margaret O'Brien-Molina tells CultureMap the incident occurred at roughly 9:30 a.m., when a woman drove her vehicle across the tracks and crashed into a northbound train.
"Preliminary reports tell us that the woman ran a red and turned onto the tra in tracks."
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Nine passengers on the light rail, none of whom suffered serious injury, were taken to other area facilities for observation.
"Preliminary reports tell us that the woman ran a red and turned onto the train tracks," O'Brien-Molina says. "At the time, there may have been an ambulance in the area she was trying to avoid. We don't know for sure yet, though."
METRO police are investigating.
In all, the wreck took less than 40 minutes to clear before rail service was back online.
