Sure, when it comes to Cinco de Mayo, all you need for a good time is a strong margarita, some salsa picante, and good company. But when you want a fiesta that's better than good, check out our guide for the best deals, drinks, and entertainment in the Houston area.

Que viva Mexico!

- Mouths will be burning at Berryhill Baja Grill in The Woodlands at the Major League Eaters' Cinco de Mayo tamale-eating contest at 7 p.m. While in the neighborhood, stop in at The Woodlands Cinco de Mayo Festival at Market Street from 5-10 p.m., featuring noshes and tunes from Yelba y Latin Fire Jazz Band.

- The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents the Puertas del Arte festival from 12-5 p.m.

- For a break from typical Tex-Mex, head to Hugo's for awesome interior Mexican cuisine. Wednesday Hugo's will have a traditional Puebla-style buffet, Hugo's signature squash blossoms, drink specials, tunes from house band Viento, mariachis and folkloric dancers.

- For more Mex-Mex, Pico's is offering happy hour prices all day ($5 Cuervo margaritas and $2 Saint Arnold's beer), plus grill specials, soft shell crab, and mariachi music.

Cyclone Anaya's started the festivities on Saturday, but Wednesday is the big day with mini mariachis, a photo booth, drink giveaways, piñatas and Aztec dancers at its three Houston locations.

- No one has a livelier patio than Taco Milagro, which also boasts a tequila bar, a salsa bar, and addictive mango margaritas. For Cinco de Mayo, expect mariachis and a danceable salsa band.

- The biggest celebration in town is at Trader's Village, which will feature live music and dancers at its fourth-annual celebration.

Molina's will be offering happy hour prices all day on drinks and food ($5.50 margaritas, $2.75-$3.25 beer and free chips and queso in the bar), plus plenty of prizes.

- Yelapa Playa Mexicana also has an all-day happy hour, with $2 tacos, $5 campechanas, $6 rock shrimp, $4 margaritas and sangria and $2 Tecate and Modelo cans
